Germany: No banning of Chinese manufacturers

5G Germany China HuawaiGerman Federal Government has no plans to ban Huawai and other chinese companies.

According to recent media news, Germany is currently not planning any kind of banning of Chinese 5G manufacturers from the german market. A request by the Green Party resulted in the answer, that the Federal German Government will only control activities and ensure that all existing securitry standards are obeyed. Several politicians from other parties as well as security experts harshly critizised this position. Nadine Schön (CDU) stated: “Critical is also that the mobile operators involved in the rollout of the 5G technology in Germany obviously predominantly rely on the Chinese partner Huawei – unlike Australia and the US, where Huawei products have been banned for 5G technology. As an export oriented nation we want free trade – but not at the cost of our security and confidentiality. We must not increasingly rely on others in sensitive areas.”

Arne Schönbohm, Head of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) pointed out that Huawai has offered to disclose their source codes. Canada as well as New Zealand have recently stated that they also don’t plan any market restrictions for Chinese technology.
